TAXIS Taxis in Bangkok are fixed with a meter and have a sign “TAXI-MATER” on the roof. The minimum fare is 35 baht for a distance of no more than 2 km. The fare will increase according to the distance covered. No tip is expected by the drivers.
AIRPORT EXPRESS There are four express bus routes from Suvarnabhumi International Airport to Bangkok downtown. The fare is 150 baht for entire route. Airport express buses are available at the public Transportation Center which can be reached by a shuttle bus.
- AE 1: Suvarnabhumi Airport – Silom Road
- AE 2: Suvarnabhumi Airport – Khao San Road
- AE 3: Suvarnabhumi Airport – Phloen Chit Road
- AE 3 (Special): Suvarnabhumi Airport – Sukhumwit (Nana)
- AE 4: Suvarnabhumi Airport – Hua Lamphong Railway Station
SAMLORS, also known as tuk-tuk in Thai, are three-wheeled taxis without a meter. Fares must be negotiated beforehand. They’re normally a little cheaper than ordinary taxis but are suitable for short trips only.
METRO (MRT) The route runs from Hua Lamphong to Bang Sue with 16 stations along the way. A train leaves the terminal every 3-5 minutes from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m. and the fares range from 15 baht to 39 baht.
SKYTRAINS (BTS) skytrians are in service in two routes viz, the Northeastern Bus Terminal-Onnut Route which passes Sukhumwit Rd, and the National Stadium-Taksin Bridge Route which passes Silom Rd. A skytrain leaves the terminal every 5 minutes from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m. but at shorter intervals during rush hours (7:30-9:30 a.m. & 5:30-7:00 p.m.). The fares range from 15 baht to 40 baht.
AIR-CONDITIONED CITY BUSES (White & Blue) See Map of BKK for the routes. The fares range from 12 baht to 20 baht, depending on distance. There are micro buses which charge a uniform fare of 25 baht. Also Euro buses (Orange) are in service with the fare ranging from 12 baht to 24 baht.
ORDINARY CITY BUSES The fare of BMTA buses (Red) is 7 baht for the whole distance, and it is 8.50 baht for non-BMTA buses (Blue)
BOATS There are express, rapid and ordinary motorboat services along the Chao Phraya River between Nonthaburi and Wat Ratcha Singkhon at various charges.
TRAINS The State Railway of Thailand runs express, fast, and ordinary train services throughout the country at very reasonable fares. For more information and reservation call Bangkok Railway Station.
AIRPLANES Domestic flight services are operated by Thai Airways (TG), Bangkok Airways, P.B. Air, Air Asia, Orient Thai Airlines, Nok Air and SGA Airlines.
